Ron's Rants & Raves: AR-15s & a Chuck Conners replica

Ron's Rants & Raves

RANT | For years, I've grumbled the firearms industry lacks consistency when it comes to components. For example, the popularity of AR-15s exploded the aftermarket for furniture and parts, many of which are advertised as universal or drop-in. Well, as in life, this is the exception, not the rule. In reality, manufacturers don't follow a set group of standards. That can - not always - cause issues when different components are mixed and matched.

One giant headache we've seen repeatedly in the Service Shop is cycling problems with customized AR builds. Each rifle is unique, so our in-house AR guru Chris has spent countless hours dissecting the interplay between ammo, gas ports, and gas blocks for solutions. Adding a suppressor into the mix adds even more complexity. In short, if you're having issues, we've already put in the work solving this problem. Let us eliminate the frustration and get you back to the range.

RAVE | Not everything in the Service Shop is a headache. One of the perks is bringing our customers' ideas to life. A current favorite project is a close replica of Chuck Conners' Winchester 92 from The Rifleman (we're building it on a Winchester 94 frame, however). The 30-30 Winchester build is a special surprise for the customer's loved one. The project includes upgraded wood and detailed receiver engraving coated in a custom Cerakote that mimics a brass finish. Take a look below at the progress on the receiver (excuse the poor lighting on the bottom right). Projects like this keep our job interesting and incredibly enjoyable!
